Tomato hummus is a colorful and flavorful twist on classic chickpea hummus, a Middle Eastern dip now loved all around the world. Mutti Double Concentrated Tomato Paste enhances this preparation with a more intense taste and vibrant red color, while maintaining the smooth and full-bodied consistency of the traditional recipe.
At the heart of any hummus recipe is tahina, a natural butter made with sesame seeds paste with a flavor reminiscent of toasted nuts and a scent similar to peanuts. In addition to its rich taste, it provides essential vitamins and minerals, making this dip nutritionally valuable as well. The addition of Tomato Paste doesn’t alter the texture of the dish, but adds a pleasant aroma and a layer of depth that makes it stand out. This tomato-enhanced version is perfect for surprising your guests with a bold yet balanced appetizer.
Tomato hummus pairs wonderfully with pita bread, crackers, breadsticks, or raw vegetables such as carrots, celery, and cucumber. It’s ideal for aperitifs or buffets, and it also works great as a side dish for meat, fish, or fresh cheeses. It can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for a couple of days in an airtight container. Before serving, stir it well and top it with a drizzle of olive oil and a few pine nuts for a beautiful and tasty finishing touch.
